The University of Koblenz-Landau intends to purchase a comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatograph coupled with a high-resolution flight-time mass spectrometer (gcxgc-hrtof-ms) based on the research project “CARBONARA”.

The gcxgc-hrtof ms is intended to investigate the composition of highly complex carbon-containing materials based on the group of coal tar peaks and their composition in ceramic materials as well as phenolic resin-bound refractory materials. Due to the very complex composition of predominantly heavy-volatile polycyclic aromatics (PAKs), this requires powerful two-dimensional chromatographic separation using gcxGC. Due to the expected composition of up to a few 1000 individual components, this pre-separation is absolutely necessary. The solid samples are to be applied to the GC columns using a thermal injector at temperatures up to 600°C. In addition to the separation option via gas chromatography, the device should be able to thermally examine solid sample components at temperatures up to at least direct sample inlet into the ion source of the mass spectrometer 300°C directly via the high-resolution flight-time mass spectrometer.

In addition to the appropriate instrument control software, the evaluation software should also be available for at least two users

The tender includes a two-dimensional gas chromatograph with a thermal modulator coupled with a high-resolution flight-time mass spectrometer. A thermal injector with a temperature of up to at least 600°C and a splitless system are available as injectors. In addition, solid sample material can be transferred directly into the mass spectrometer and measured at temperatures up to at least 300°C by means of a separate sample inlet. The call for tenders also includes a control computer, control software, evaluation software, installation and commissioning on site, as well as training of operating personnel lasting several days. The advertised device may be a demo device in perfect condition and in mint condition with a warranty from the manufacturer of 12 months.
