Description:
The Danish Road Directorate seeks to engage with market players for a system that recognizes road pavement damage using AI, aiming to enhance damage detection and maintenance frequency.

The Danish Road Directorate is preparing an upcoming purchase of a system that can recognize road pavement damages and, with an associated AI solution, register pavement damage, their extent, and location. The type of pavement damages of interest includes cracks, alligator cracking, and potholes. For this purpose, the Danish Road Directorate wants to engage in a dialogue with relevant market players. The aim is to map possible solutions for recording road damages by using AI or machine learning. In connection with the market dialogue, the Danish Road Directorate will carry out a test of relevant equipment to clarify their repeatability and their reproducibility, in relation to a reference defined by the Danish Road Directorate. The market dialogue and the associated testing of equipment shall determine the quality and accuracy of equipment offered by suppliers in the market. The purpose of this is to qualify the Danish Road Directorate's further process for the procurement of such a system. Brief description of project: Traditionally, inspection and registration of road surface damage uses either a visual inspection or advanced measuring equipment. In both cases, such registrations are typically made once a year. The Danish Road Directorate wants the traditional registrations of road damage to be supplemented with registrations done by a system and associated AI detection. The aim is to obtain a higher frequency of objective measurements so that any pavement damage is recorded as early as possible. Thereby, repairs and maintenance can be carried out as an immediate action. Through a pilot project, the Danish Road Directorate has found that the use of a system mounted in a vehicle's windscreen and suitable AI technology provides the needed registration of road damages, as mentioned above. Based on the outcome of the pilot study, the Danish Road Directorate has decided to tender out the purchase of this technology, in 2025. The pilot project also clarified that, internationally, there are several different technologies and solutions available, that potentially meets the Danish Road Directorate's needs. The pilot project, however, also showed that there is a need to determine the quality of these methods, particularly in relation to the traditional methods used by the Danish Road Directorate over the past decades. Based on the above, the Danish Road Directorate will carry out this market analysis, together with an actual quality assurance test, of available equipment and methods. Process for the market dialogue: The market dialogue, and the associated tests, will take place in Denmark at Guldalderen 12, 2640 Hedehusene from March 3, 2025, at 12:00 until March 4, 2025, at 14:00. Technology providers, of the above-mentioned technology, with an interest in participating in the market dialogue and associated tests, are asked to contact: Mr. Victor Gauguin Gammelgaard on vicga@vd.dk or Mr. Bjarne Schmidt on bjs1@vd.dk no later than February 10, 2025, at 12:00. Please include the following in the expression of interest: - a brief description of the company's proposed solution approach. - expected participants from the company (name and title) - Special highlights, interests, and requirements for participating in the dialogue meeting and testing. After the deadline for inquiries, the Danish Road Directorate will review the expressions of interest received and thereafter provide further details and information concerning the execution of the market dialogue and tests. Note: For resource reasons, the Danish Road Directorate reserves the right to limit the number of participants. This will be based on the aim of having a broad as possible representation of solution approaches. Any questions about the above can be directed to Mr. Victor Gauguin Gammelgaard on vicga@vd.dk or Mr. Bjarne Schmidt on bjs1@vd.dk

Invitation to Market Dialogue: Potential Suppliers of Systems that Can Be Mounted in a Vehicle's Windshield and Can Recognize Damage to Road Pavement, along with AI to Determine Type, Extent, and Location of Damage.
The Danish Road Directorate is preparing an upcoming purchase of a system that can recognize road pavement damages and, with an associated AI solution, register these damages, their extent, and location. The type of damages includes cracks, alligator cracking, and potholes. To this end, the Danish Road Directorate wishes to engage in a dialogue with relevant market players to map possible solutions for recording road damages using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The Danish Road Directorate also wishes, in connection with the market dialogue, to carry out a test of relevant equipment to illustrate their repeatability and reproducibility concerning a reference defined by the Danish Road Directorate. The market dialogue and the associated testing of equipment shall help determine the quality and accuracy of the equipment offered by suppliers in the market. The Danish Road Directorate thus invites to a non-binding market dialogue and test of equipment. The purpose of this is to qualify the Danish Road Directorate's future procurement process. Brief description of the project: Traditionally, inspections and registration of road pavement damage have been performed through visual inspection or using advanced measurement equipment. In both cases, such registrations are typically done once a year. The Danish Road Directorate wishes to supplement traditional registrations of road damages with registrations made using a registration system with AI detection. The aim is to be able to perform objective measurements with a more frequent rate, ensuring that any damage is registered as early as possible. This way, repairs and maintenance can occur concurrently with the damage arising. The Danish Road Directorate has, through a pilot project, established that the use of a system mounted in a vehicle's windshield, combined with AI technology, allows for the registration of road damages as mentioned above. This has led the Danish Road Directorate to decide to tender the purchase of this technology in 2025. The pilot project also highlighted the existence of various technologies and solutions internationally that potentially meet the Danish Road Directorate's needs for this type of measurement. Furthermore, the pilot project showed that there is a need to determine the quality of these methods in comparison to the methods that the Danish Road Directorate has used over the past decades. Therefore, the Danish Road Directorate needs to conduct this market analysis together with a proper test of the quality of the available equipment and methods. Process for the market dialogue: The Danish Road Directorate plans to hold a market dialogue with accompanying tests of equipment and methods. The market dialogue meetings and corresponding tests will occur at Guldalderen 12, 2640 Hedehusene from March 3, 2025, at 12:00 until March 4, 2025, at 14:00. Anyone interested in participating in the market dialogue and associated tests is requested to contact: Victor Gauguin Gammelgaard at vicga@vd.dk or Bjarne Schmidt at bjs1@vd.dk by February 10, 2025, at 12:00. The expression of interest should include: - a brief description of the company's proposed solution approach. - expected participants from the company (name and title) - any wishes for the days, e.g., in connection with participating in tests. After the deadline for inquiries, the Danish Road Directorate will review the received expressions of interest and send further details about holding the days to the market actors who have expressed interest in participating. Note: The Danish Road Directorate reserves the right for resource-related reasons not to hold a market dialogue with all who have submitted an expression of interest. When selecting among the expressions of interest, a particular emphasis will be placed on ensuring that the market dialogue meetings reflect a broad representation of possible solution approaches. Any questions regarding the above can be directed to Victor Gauguin Gammelgaard at vicga@vd.dk or Bjarne Schmidt at bjs1@vd.dk
