The Brabantse Delta Water Board installed weirs and pumping stations to regulate the water level. However, weirs, pumping stations and other works of art hinder the migration of fish. As a result, fish cannot move freely. Solving fish migration bottlenecks is important. Different fish species swim between (parts of) waters in order to reproduce successfully. Migration is therefore a necessity for the survival of these species. We define the concept of fish migration as the migration of fish between spawning, growing up, foraging and wintering areas.

The water board intends to make a total of 7 works of art fish-migrateable.
