The wastewater plant of the Verbandsgemeinde Rhein-Selz intends to provide emergency relief into the Rhine in Nierstein am Rhein at junction B9/B420 in order to relieve the sewerage system, including from the bleaching route via a newly built pumping station. Emergency relief is to be created to reduce overflow events that occur during heavy rain. Designed as an emergency relief, the rain relief system is a rain overflow, the throttle outflow of which results from the existing sewer system. A greater reduction compared to the existing situation is not envisaged in order to continue to fully exploit the available useful volume of the subsequent storage channel SKO Nierstein II. It is intended to prevent water leakage from the sewer systems only when the sewer system is overloaded.
