Description:

The object of procurement is high resolution LC-MS/MS mass spectrometer which can be used for screening, identification and quantification of components of complex mixtures from different food matrices. Also the maintenance and servicing contract will be procured in order to ensure good working condition of the device. The Supplier takes charge of delivering the device to Evira, installation of it to working condition, providing the operating instructions and operator training. Following delivery, the device shall be installed without delay. The device will be placed at Evira's premises (Mustialankatu 3, Helsinki) in Research and Laboratory Services Department which is equipped with regular technical and laboratory facilities.

The object of procurement is a high resolution LC-MS/MS mass spectrometer which can be used for screening, identification and quantification of components of complex mixtures from different food matrices. The device will be placed at Evira's premises (Mustialankatu 3, Helsinki) in Research and Laboratory Services Department which is equipped with regular technical and laboratory facilities. This is a procurement of new device with advanced technology in Evira. Currently such advanced instrumentation with sufficient performance is not available in Evira’s laboratory. The new-generation hybrid mass spectrometers with quadrupole time-of-flight mass analyzers (Q-TOF) have become powerful tools especially in screening analysis because these instruments allow accurate mass measurements to be recorded in high resolving power and sensitivity over a large range of ion abundances. The other advantage is TOF analyzers’ high speed acquisition which makes possible to combine mass spectrometer with ultrafast separation LC systems, a prerequisite technical feature for recording chromatographically separated substances from complex mixtures without loss of additional peak resolution. Also the modern devices are equipped with comprehensive databases and analyte libraries which are used for the identification of detected compounds. National and reference laboratories from several countries have started using high resolution LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with Q-TOF analyzer especially for screening purposes in recent years. In Evira’s laboratory, the device to be procured will be used for screening and quantification of contaminants and environmental toxins in food and feed as well those in tissues from production animals and wild animals. The contaminants and toxins include for example pesticide and drug residues. Monitoring prevents contaminated food from reaching consumers and provides information on the state of the environment and on changes that possibly have occurred because of the environmental toxins. Quantitative analyses ensure that food does not contain controlled residues exceeding the approved maximum amounts. In addition, the device enables retrospective searching of possible contaminants such as new drugs by simply reprocessing the data without re-running of past samples.
