PIR01_00010 - OR8-01 “HPC and storage systems for data collection and use SRT” and OR6-01 “SRT digital backend data flow management”

Acquisition of a combined CPU+GPU compute board system for High Performance Computing (HPC), High Throughput Computing (HTC) and data storage, to be allocated in part at the site of Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) in the municipality of San Basilio and partly at the connected computing center at the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari (OAC), in the Municipality of Selargius.

OR8-01 HPC — PIR01_00010_65168

The client intends to acquire a computer system in order to equip Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) infrastructure with data storage capacity (storage) and high performance computing capacity ( HPC and HTC), which align with the potential of the entire infrastructure to produce science of excellence.

The system will be geographically located in two sites: at the calculation center of Sardinia Radio Telescope (OAC System), located within the headquarters of the Astronomical Observatory of Cagliari, in the municipality of Cagliari Selargius, and at the observation headquarters of Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT System, in the Municipality of San Basilio). The material to be installed at the headquarters of San Basilio (SRT system) will in turn be divided into two lots, of which this constitutes lot 1 together with the entire system located within the OAC headquarters.

On the merits, the object of lot 1 is the supply of the equipment of the OR_8 Achievement Objective, marked with the code of unambiguous asset PIR01_00010_65168, with the preliminary and not exhaustive characteristics below listed. For the specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the tender.

Rack-mounted HPC computing system with a mixed CPU-GPU approach and rack-mounted storage system.

Most computing nodes (Type A and B) must be equipped with one or more GPU cards; at least 3TB of solid-state disk space and at least 1TB of RAM; a low latency 100Gb network interface, a multi-GB dual port network interface and a network for management/monitoring. Other compute nodes (type C) must have at least 3TB of solid-state disk space and at least 0.5 TB of RAM; a 100 Gb low-latency network interface, a multi-GB dual port network interface and a network for management/monitoring.

The storage system will consist of two subsystems, one of which is less capacity (scratch storage) with mixed HDD and SSD technology (minimum 32 TB), and one with greater capacity (long term storage) technology HDD; RAM of at least 512 GB; a 100Gb low-latency network interface, a network interface for management/monitoring;

OAC system (headquarters in the Municipality of Selargius).

HPC-A: minimum 6 knots (for specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the race).

HPC-B minimum 8 knots (for specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the race).

OAC-SS: Minimum capacity of storage nodes: 400 Tb (for specific specifications refer to tender technical specifications).

OAC-SLT: minimum capacity 2 Pb (for specific specifications refer to the technical tender specifications).

The network topology shall include within the same contract at least one low-latency switch (Infiniband) and at least one switch dedicated to management/monitoring.

SRT system (headquarters in the Municipality of San Basilio).

SRT-HPC-B: maximum number of knots: 4 (for specific specifications refer to the technical tender specifications).

SRT-SS: Minimum storage capacity: 400 TB (for specific specifications refer to tender technical specifications).

SRT-SLT: Maximum permissible rack units 24U, minimum storage 800TB (for specific specifications refer to the technical tender specifications).

The network topology shall include within the same contract at least one low-latency switch and at least one switch dedicated to management/monitoring.

The entire supply must be carried out in place. The price offered must therefore include, for all systems and nothing excluded, the costs of installation and in-situ testing of hardware and software, at full and full load of the foster economic operator.

OR6-01 BACK_CALC — PIR01_00010_223780

The client intends to acquire a computer system in order to equip Sardinia Radio Telescope (SRT) infrastructure with data storage capacity (storage) and high performance computing capacity ( HPC and HTC), which align with the potential of the entire infrastructure to produce science of excellence.

The BACK-CALC system, this lot 2, will be geographically located at the observation headquarters of Sardinia Radio Telescope.

On the merits, the object of Lot 2 is the supply of the equipment of the OR_6 Achievement Objective, marked with the unique asset code PIR01_00010_223780, with the preliminary and not exhaustive characteristics below listed. For the specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the tender.

SRT-A clusters. Rack-mounted HPC computing system consisting of at least five nodes with a mixed CPU-GPU approach.

Each calculation node must be equipped with one or more GPU cards; at least 3TB of disk space and at least 512GB of RAM.

Dual port QSFP28 Ethernet network card plus network card for management/monitoring. For the specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the tender.

The network topology shall include within the same contract at least one QSFP28 32 Ethernet port switch and at least one switch dedicated to management/monitoring.

The supply of the products will be in place, according to the rules defined for Lot 1, and must include in-situ installation and testing of hardware and software. For the specific specifications refer to the technical specifications of the tender.
