Development and design of a new permanent exhibition Brandenburg Textile Museum, Forst (Lusatia)

The Brandenburg Textile Museum Forst (Lusatia) was opened in 1995 at its current location. After almost 30 years, the museum is now being rebuilt and expanded with a new building.

In addition to the structural measures, the museum will be redesigned and the scope of content will be greatly expanded. A pure textile museum becomes an industrial museum with a focus on textiles. The museum will show the (structural) change of the city and the region. This is done in the central areas, the textile industry and coal mining, and thus in the area of infrastructure. The depiction of change covers the city and the region from the 19th century to the present day, and it is even intended to take a look into the future.

The new exhibition is intended to be highly interactive and innovative, regionally oriented and at the same time confidently depicting global contexts.

The temporal focus is on the period from 1800 to the present. Important events that preceded this main timeline are presented in so-called "archives". And visions of the future can be found in the so-called "laboratories". These archives and laboratories should be flexible and expandable. The museum shows objects relating to the city of Forst (Lusatia) and the entire region in the areas of the textile industry, lignite, infrastructure/mobility and everyday life.

The future museum sees itself as the cultural center of the city and the region. For this reason, the permanent exhibition, but also the use and equipment of the large hall, will play an important role for events and museum education. The large inner courtyard is also to be included in the event planning.

For the implementation of the "New Permanent Exhibition" project for the Brandenburg Textile Museum, the city of Forst (Lusatia) needs a professionally positioned exhibition planning office that is able to fulfill all required services within a specified timeline. Before the exhibition can be implemented in the building, the entire building will be renovated and the new building will be erected under the direction of the city of Forst (Lusatia). Completion of the building is scheduled for April 2024.

In the course of the preliminary planning, an overall concept was developed that defines the framework conditions for both the permanent exhibition and the museum's operations. This includes the central idea of the museum, the concept idea of the permanent exhibition, the integration and revitalization of the environment and the framework data on feasibility (visit forecast, personnel concept, estimation of follow-up costs, cost calculation of the facility and timetable of implementation). In addition, the detailed concept is developed, which further develops the proposals for topics and key objects from the overall concept.
