The city of Weißenhorn intends to merge the 3 listed buildings Heimatmuseum, Oberes Tor and Altes Rathaus to form a coherent museum complex.
In cooperation with a museum designer, the Weissenhorn Heimat- und Museumverein, and the state office for non-state museums in Bavaria, a framework concept was drawn up for the reorganization of the ensemble's content. This concept depicts a new spatial program that encompasses all 3 buildings and aims to provide barrier-free access to all permanent and special exhibition areas through an external elevator on the existing building, an internal elevator in the extension building (Kirchplatz 2) and a transition between the two buildings create. The Upper Gate with its towers cannot be accessed barrier-free.
In the course of the preparation of the project, a survey, a building age documentation, 2 static assessments and a preliminary planning were created. The city of Weißenhorn took over the rights to the preliminary draft.
