For the existing preliminary investigation, a selection of new drives for the Spandau lock and the Freiarchen weir should be considered (LPh 1-2). All other service phases are optional.

In the course of the automation and remote control of waterway and shipping management systems with the connection of the Spandau ship lock system and the weirs of the Citadel and Free Arches weir to the control center in Grünau, the adaptation of the electrotechnical systems according to the guideline "Automation and remote control of systems in the WSV", as well as the drives of the locks and shock protection systems. All drives are to be checked with regard to their further operation. The focus is on replacing the existing hydraulic drives with electromechanical drives (electric lifting cylinders) or compact hydraulic radial piston motors. The new technical installation must take into account the operating environment, the operating conditions, the functions and the construction of the closure and filling elements. The planning should provide a clear result for the later implementation of the measure.

The possible solutions are to be compared. The interfaces to the other trades (hydraulic engineering, solid construction, electrical engineering) and the space requirements must be specified. A graphic representation with a list of parts lists and quantity take-offs must be prepared. The planning of storage, anchoring and changes to the solid construction must be coordinated.

Coating systems for corrosion protection are to be named. The functional descriptions must be prepared for all drives and systems. Production and possible assembly dates are to be set up and assessed. Cost estimates and cost calculations are to be prepared. Coordination, control and, if necessary, updating of the risk assessment (Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC) together with the electrical / control / communications engineering specialist.

The aim of the engineering work for work phases 1 to 2 is to determine the drives for the Spandau ship lock system and the Freiarchen weir. Service phases 3 to 7 can then optionally take place.
