The X-ray department of Vaasa Central Hospital will acquire computed tomography (CT) equipment to replace the CT acquired in 2013.
Approximately 14,000 CT scans are performed annually in the X-ray department of Vaasa Central Hospital, about half of which are emergency examinations. The patients to be photographed are mainly adult patients, but occasionally children and adolescents are also photographed.
The primary application of the equipment to be procured is emergency room examinations, but the equipment will also be used to photograph elective patients.

The equipment must therefore be suitable for almost all CT scans performed at the central hospital in patients of all sizes. At this stage, the equipment has not been designed for coronary diagnostics, but since emergency examinations are nevertheless the primary application of the device to be procured, the device must be capable of ECG-paced examinations.
The equipment to be acquired will be used to perform CT-guided procedures, such as nerve root anaesthesia, cavity drainage and bone and organ biopsies. In addition, the equipment will also be used to photograph children, so the image quality should be clinically good enough with a low dose of radiation and imaging should be as fast as possible to minimize motion artifacts.
