Construction of the curve of the Red Tower Jena
The tram network of Jenaer Nahverkehr GmbH has an existing track spacing of predominantly 3.0 m with a track gauge of 1,000 mm. This means that operation with the existing vehicles can be carried out safely. The new Tramlink vehicle type from Stadler has a larger car body width. With the envelope curve tendered by Jenaer Nahverkehr GmbH and essentially adhered to by Stadler (as of 24.04.2021), large parts of the existing network in Jena can be operated without conflict.
At the Roter Turm curve, the existing track system (survey 05-2021) was analysed. Based on this analysis, a slight widening of the track axes is planned, which will enable conflict-free operation after realization. A new building or conversion is only planned from the upper edge of the grade in order to keep the expenditure within economically justifiable limits. The client therefore refrains from new ground investigations. The load-bearing capacity of the existing grade shall be demonstrated during construction work and, if necessary, improved.
The planned construction project comprises the following components:
- Track construction to ensure safe encounter traffic
- Renewal of the superstructure incl. the grade
- Renewal of road drains and track drainage
- Underground cable construction for reverse current connections etc.
- Partially. Renewal of the on-board system
