Ballough Bypass

Ballough Above Ground Installation (AGI) is a key piece of infrastructure on the Republic of Ireland transmission gas network. Numerous key pipelines converge on Ballough AGI. The AGI is located west of Lusk in North Co. Dublin adjacent to the M1 motorway.

The scope of this construction contract is to create a bypass around Ballough AGI.

As part of the contract the following new works will be required:

• a new AGI, north of Ballough AGI adjacent to the existing 900 mm Gormanston to Ballough pipeline. The new AGI will contain above and below ground pipework, valves, pig trap facilities and associated civils and electrical/instrumentation works.

• a new 700 m long, 750 mm bypass pipeline from the new AGI to the existing 750 mm pipeline to the West.

• a new AGI, north of Ballough AGI adjacent to the existing 900 mm Gormanston to Ballough pipeline. The new AGI will contain above and below ground pipework, valves, pig trap facilities and associated civils and electrical/instrumentation works.

• a new 700 m long, 750 mm bypass pipeline from the new AGI to the existing 750 mm pipeline to the West. A trenchless crossing (approx. 150 m long) of the M1 motorway is required. The new pipeline will be a welded steel pipeline and will have a wall-thickness of 19.1mm. The design pressure of the new pipeline is 85 bar.

• 2 No new 900 mm pipeline connections (approx. 100 m each) from the new AGI to the existing 900 mm Gormanston to Ballough pipeline.

• 3 No stopple locations requiring 9 No split tees to be welded onto existing 750 mm and 900 mm diameter pipelines and under-pressure drilling of the pipeline at each split tee plus line stoppling/local bypass piping at the stopple locations.

• modifications to the pipework arrangement at Ballough AGI including associated civil works.

• testing and commissioning of all pipeline and AGI works.

• discharge of the duties of PSCS / Contractor in accordance with applicable H&S legislation.

• additional elements relating to the above scope of works.
