The science city of Darmstadt intends to replace the main building that was built in the 1970s and its extension with a replacement new building, as the two buildings can no longer meet the needs of the current educational concepts. The space required for this new building has a program area of approximately 3,000 m².

The existing specialist class wing was built in the 2000s and will continue to exist in order to support the school in the field of natural sciences. As before, the existing building will be connected to the future new building via the two-storey, glazed connecting part.

On an area of more than 6,000 square meters on three floors and basement, classrooms and specialist rooms, service rooms, corridors and sanitary areas are to be created for around 650 pupils as well as their teachers and pedagogical leaders.

420 heat supply systems

The new building of the Bertolt-Brecht-Schule is to be a modern, innovative, energy-optimized building. For technically flawless and safe operation, it is imperative to equip the building with state-of-the-art heating systems (heat supply technology).

421 heat generation systems

The heat supply will be accommodated in the basement of the new building. In addition, the existing specialist classroom wing will be supplied from the new building.

Of course, the equipment is equipped with all necessary shut-off, control and safety armartures. The heat exchangers are protected from contamination by strainers. For pressure maintenance, a pressure retention station, as well as an automatic refill and degassing station is provided.

The new building will have a main distributor positioned in the central heating system (new basement building). The individual heating circuits of the new building and the existing building (specialist class wing) are supplied with heat via this main distributor.

The heating of the new building is carried out by the use of articulated radiators and panel radiators, as well as decentralised ventilation units, which are housed in the outer façade. The vertical development of the building is carried out by means of risers.

The distribution in the floors, to the consumers, takes place via distribution lines, which are accommodated in the floor structure. By means of an individual room control, the heating of the rooms can be controlled as required. The decentralised ventilation units are connected by means of connecting lines, which are also laid in the floor structure. To protect against transmission of flow noise, the pipeline network is decoupled with noise-minimizing clamps.

From an energetic and economic point of view, the pipeline network will be provided with 100% insulation according to the current GEG, 200% outdoors.
