The object of the assignment is the environmental management and the preparation and implementation of communication in the context of infrastructure projects of Roads and Traffic Flemish Brabant that are associated with much or significant nuisance or have a major impact on the environment.
The Agency for Roads and Traffic manages and maintains approximately 5500 km of regional roads, 1430 km of motorways and 6700 km of cycle paths. The 1400 employees of the Agency for Roads and Traffic are responsible for the construction, maintenance and improvement of those bicycle, regional and motorways. The agency is part of the policy domain Mobility and Public Works of the Flemish government.
Many regional roads in Flanders run through central, commercial and residential areas. When Roads and Traffic carries out work on those roads, this often causes significant inconvenience to residents, traders, entrepreneurs and attraction poles. Roads and Traffic makes a lot of efforts to minimise the nuisance associated with work by performing work in phases or by applying so-called less obstacle measures. Roads and Traffic also communicates in a timely and effective manner so that everyone who has an interest in doing so gets the correct information about the works in time.
Roads and Traffic is provincially organized: there is a territorial division per province. In each province there is a communication manager (in East Flanders, Antwerp and Flemish Brabant supported by a communication employee) who is responsible for the external communication of the department in question.
