The purpose of the contract is the provision of diesel multiple unit trains to be used in the rail networks East and North in Schleswig-Holstein (assignment "SH-XMU III"), including all other provisions resulting from the attached deployment contract (Annex T2) and its appendices and appendices Rights and obligations.

The state of Schleswig-Holstein has tendered with the award SH-XMU traction vehicles with alternative propulsion technologies, which are to be used mainly on non-electrified routes in the railway networks East and North in Schleswig-Holstein. The contract for this award was granted on 1.7.2019 to Stadler Pankow GmbH for a battery electric locomotive. The trainsets are to be developed, manufactured and maintained by the manufacturer over the long term. In order to counteract any initial difficulties with the new drive technology and to facilitate a smooth introduction of the new multiple unit trains, a pilot series of 5 multiple unit trains will be delivered from November 2022 onwards. The remaining multiple units will be gradually put into operation from May 2023 onwards. In order to enable this gradual commissioning and as a replacement for delays in delivery or failures of the battery electric trainsets, the provision of diesel power trains is necessary. The subject of the present award is therefore the provision of 22 diesel multiple units in the 2023 and 2024 timetable years. The provision also covers the maintenance of the multiple unit trains. In addition to the trainsets to be provided, the provider must provide the trainsets required for maintenance.
