The aim of the project is to develop inter-municipal flood protection concepts for the sub-catchment areas, in which municipal and inter-municipal (i.e. locally and regionally effective) flood protection measures are coordinated and prioritised.

Since June 2022, the Erftverband has been leading a cooperation project with some municipalities and districts in the Erft catchment area to improve technical flood protection. The aim of the Inter-Municipal Flood Protection Cooperation is to develop and coordinate flood protection measures at municipal and inter-municipal level. The aim is to minimise the risk of flooding as far as possible. The overall project is subdivided into sub-projects, which in turn cover the natural catchment areas of the Erft and its tributaries Swist, Veybach, Rotbach and Neffelbach. The Erftverband is responsible for all work packages in the areas of project management and inter-municipal contributions. The member municipalities are in turn responsible for the work packages within the framework of the municipal flood protection concepts. The targeted deadlines of the work packages are to be understood as milestones.
