Artificial intelligence (AI) methods offer a novel, promising, data-driven and thus realistic approach to modeling complex issues. These skills can also be applied to such circumstances and occasions as they prevail in the field of mobility and around everyday traffic.

AI is perceived as a key driver for the introduction of future intelligent and cooperative mobility systems in the fields of automated and networked driving (AVF), as well as digital traffic management and control technology.

In order to test novel mobility concepts, taking into account legal, methodological, technological, safety-related and social issues, innovation potential is to be leveraged through the development of a digital twin of an active test field in Baden-Württemberg. Such a digital twin is intended to provide the basis for significantly expanding testing opportunities for a wide variety of technologies, especially AI-based ones. Furthermore, such a digital twin of a real transport system is to be used to secure intelligent and cooperative transport infrastructures in order to counter the potential dangers such as cyber attacks that arise as a result of future ever-increasing networking. On this basis, the AVF, the intelligent transport infrastructure and the associated technologies are to be developed more efficiently and safely and then tested under real conditions.
