The Willem Alexander Centrale (WAC) is a coal gasification power plant, located in the southern part of the Netherlands. The power plant has a capacity of approximately 240MWe, is commissioned in 1993.
To reduce CO2 emissions, the possibility of co-gasification of biomass in the WAC is being studied. The strategy of Nuon aims to co-gasify 70 % (energy basis) biomass at the WAC. In order to reach this goal, Hardware Modifications (HMs) to the existing facility are required.
The extension concerns two concrete silos and handling facilities. A combination of reusing existing installations and new equipment is required. For more general information on the facilities in Buggenum and NUON in general, we refer to www.nuon.com.
