Description:
Reconstruction of the mullion and transom façade

The façade of the Valentin-Ickelsamer-Mittelschule, Dinkelsbühler Straße 3 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, is being comprehensively renewed in the course of the general renovation of the school due to numerous deficiencies. The building envelope consists of a listed mullion and transom façade. This is to be replaced and repaired during the renovation with a faithful replacement or renovation in accordance with the requirements of the monument.

The construction project involves the general renovation of the Valentin-Ickelsamer-Mittelschule in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühler Straße 3. The school, which currently has more than 400 pupils, is housed in a listed building, which was originally built in 1975 and currently has 20 classes. The building is divided into three floors, the division takes place as staggered floors with partial basements. A maximum length of approx. 80 m and a maximum width of approx. 72 m can be assumed. In view of demographic change and changing pedagogical school concepts, a holistically functioning school building is to be created, which meets the requirements for safety, environment, accessibility, low follow-up costs, pedagogy and economic efficiency in the long term and sustainably. The school building will be completely renovated in accordance with contemporary energy, functional, fire and sound insulation requirements. The concerns of accessibility are taken care of. Furthermore, the renovation includes a reorganization of fire protection, among other things by adapting the escape routes and additional external stairs. Directly adjacent to the Valentin-Ickelsamer Mittelschule in the east and north are the buildings of the Reichsstadtgymnasium. In the north-west, west and south-west are the school sports facilities and the sports hall. Further north, above an abandoned railway line, agricultural land is adjacent. Below Dinkelsbühler Straße there is a general residential area to the south. To ensure that the renovation does not have to take place during ongoing operations, school operations will be outsourced to a container facility on the sports facilities within the school grounds in need of renovation during the construction period. This area will be prepared with its own construction road and its own infrastructure (supply and disposal) so that the container facility can be operated independently of all other construction measures. The school transport takes place by bus via a separate stop directly on Dinkelsbühler Straße. The terrain rises sharply from the south, starting from Dinkelsbühler Straße, to the north, resulting in the chipping-level arrangement in the existing building. The building of the school has been built in mixed construction. The supporting structure consists of a reinforced concrete skeleton structure with columns in a grid of 8.40/8.40 m, column cross-sections D = 40 cm, precast reinforced concrete beams, reinforced concrete semi-prefabricated ceilings, d = 30 cm and stiffening reinforced concrete or exposed masonry walls. The existing foundation of the structure consists of single and strip foundations with non-load-bearing reinforced concrete floor slabs. The floor slabs protrude against the outdoor space. The existing interior walls are designed as system partition wall design, dry construction or clinker masonry. The load-bearing concept of the existing building will largely not be changed. Locally, conversion or new construction measures are carried out, such as the construction of new wall openings or the installation of the central elevator to create accessibility across all floors, including ramp systems. The existing glass roof over the auditorium has to be dismantled and renewed due to numerous water ingress in the past. The new glass roof is designed with polycarbonate roofing without sun protection. All existing flat roofs will also be dismantled. Here, insulation layers with bitumen waterproofing are carried out on the STB ceilings without gravel covering, which is secured against lifting by means of bonding. The ventilation units are installed on the

top flat roof, which are based on steel gratings made for this purpose due to the load transfer. The façade is extensively renewed due to numerous defects. The building envelope consists of a listed mullion and transom façade. This is to be replaced and repaired in the course of the renovation measure with faithful replacement in parts of the ground floor and the entire 1st/2nd floors or renovation of an area on the ground floor in accordance with the requirements of a listed building. This tender includes the new aluminium mullion and transom facades and windows based on historical models.
