SNBTS require Automated Blood Separator Equipment for the routine manufacture of blood components.

SNBTS currently has 2 Manufacturing sites (Edinburgh & Glasgow), however in 2017, SNBTS manufacturing shall be consolidated into a new single site based at Riccarton, near Edinburgh. This equipment will be initially installed at each site and subsequently transferred to the new facility.

SNBTS collects approximately 178 000 whole blood donations per year: From this it manufactures approximately: 169 000 RCC; 32 500 Buffy-coats; 17 000 FFP; 12 000 FPP Intermediate for cryoprecipitate production; and 6 000 platelet pools per year.
