University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is looking to purchase and implement a complete electronic blood tracking and traceability management system, to include electronic bedside patient identification at the point of blood sampling and electronic printing of bar coded labels to sample tubes, blood stock management in blood banks and full tracking of all movements of blood to its eventual transfusion to patient. The system must be able to provide full compliance with blood traceability legislation and record keeping for a minimum of 30 years, as stipulated in the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 (UK Statutory Institute 50), as well as allow full interface and integration with the Laboratory Information Management System, patient administration system and electronic systems for patient records. A further essential requirement of the system is an electronic blood requesting facility which must be user configurable.
