Description:

This supply of laboratory services is handled by Servicemaegleren A/S on behalf of the Danish Safety Technology Authority. The laboratory services out to tender include laboratory testing of the Contracting Authority's main areas, i.e. toys, child care products, electrical equipment covered by the Heavy Current Act, electrical equipment covered by the Low Voltage Act, gas products, pyrotechnic articles, as well as mobile control measurements of solariums in Denmark. The Contracting Authority carries out random checks on a wide variety of products, ranging from electrical appliances, gas appliances, fireworks, to toys and other products intended for consumers. Random checks of the different product categories will help to ensure: · that they meet technical standards. · the labelling/rating is in order. · that they are not dangerous to use. Checks are typically conducted by the Contracting Authority selecting products where experience shows that there may be a par.

Toys

In relation to toys, there are 2 age groups in operation: children aged from 0-3 and 3-14. Typically, the toys will be tested to see whether they contain small parts that can be swallowed and whether there are seams in the toy that do not comply with the requirements in the standard. There will also be a test on the toy's flammability, as well as the noise level of, for example, electronic toys. Most of the toys to be tested are toys for the 0-3 age group.

Products including child care products

This group of products consists of a wide range of products that are primarily aimed at consumers and families with children. Child care products, such as dummies, pushchairs, cots and the like, account for a large proportion of the products tested. The tests can be conducted either after an enquiry from a consumer, or if the Contracting Authority wants to look closer at a single product group.

LVD/Electrical equipment

The majority of the products here are lighting fixtures and household products, as well as entertainment electronics; typical products used by general consumers. In addition, there can be a wish for tests on, for example, residual current circuit breakers, plug sockets and wiring cables.

Gas products

This group will typically be gas appliances that are used by the general gas consumer. It can be an appliance that is installed or used in a household, for instance, a gas cooker or a gas tumble dryer. Furthermore, it may be leisure appliances that are typically used outdoors. It can be a gas barbeque, a patio heater or smaller gas appliances that are typically used for camping, etc.

Pyrotechnic articles

Tests in this product category will mainly be aimed at fireworks that will be used by the general consumer. That is to say the type of fireworks that can lawfully be used during the period 27 December to 1 January by all consumers in Denmark. In Denmark, there is a tradition for using the term ‘consumer fireworks’, but in the Directive it will be aimed at the designation CAT. 1, CAT. 2 and parts of CAT 3.

It could be the case that there is also a need for testing other pyrotechnic articles. In the Directive they are designated as P1 and P2 articles. This could, for instance, be ship distress flares and in exceptional cases airbags for cars.

Solariums

The Contracting Authority must check that the provisions of the Solarium Act and the regulations that are determined on the basis of the law are respected. This will, among other things, be achieved through measurements of the solariums' radiation.
