Set books:: Start reading. Because reading helps us move forward.

The work advertised includes the conception, production and ready-to-use delivery of a Wimmel-Papp picture book for two to six-year-old children and/or a comic style picture story for six to nine-year-old children with a circulation of 20,000 copies each.

Two subject lots are awarded as follows:

1. Compartment lot 1:

The first place winner of the tender process for the Wimmel-Papp picture book special edition for two to six-year-old children will deliver in 2022:

20,000 book copies.

2. Professional lot 2:

The first place winner of the bidding process of the picture story in the comic style special edition for six- to nine-year-old children will deliver in 2022

20,000 book copies.

Wimmel cardboard picture book for two to six year old children

The work advertised includes the conception, production and ready-to-use delivery of a Wimmel-Papp picture book for two to six-year-old children in an edition of 20,000 copies.

The contractor has to provide the following services:

1. Manufacturer's execution

- Width: 15 to max. 17 cm/height: 19 to max. 21 cm (landscape format is possible)

- Pages: 16 including U1-U4

- Special edition: Start-up branding on U1 and U4 as well as other text modules

- Print: 4/4-color

- Bookbinding processing: cardboard picture book

- Maximum weight per book: 240 grams

2. Material requirements/manufacturer quality:

- colourfast; also according to sweat and saliva resistance tests

- Product and material safe: all materials are free from azo dyes and PVC, non-toxic, stable, bite-resistant (proof of all requirements on request)

- Cardboard should contain recycled paper, but still have the appearance of white cardboard

- FSC certified paper

3. Content presets

The following guidelines are set by the AG as fixed framework points, and bidders are also allowed to contribute their own ideas when submitting.

3.1. Overall concept and structure

- Hidden object story with continuous narration (and recurring characters)

- Each double page consists of a hidden object scene, matching picture words (illustrations with text), which are also a search request, and a short read aloud text

3.2. Text design and language

- block letters

- simple language

- Image words to get to know terms (nouns, verbs, adjectives, prepositions, numbers as individual words or chunks)

- Read aloud text: ideally integration of W-questions to stimulate conversations

- Gender-appropriate and non-discriminatory language

3.3. illustrations

- Depict diversity in every respect (e.g. ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, family structure, etc.) and depictions that are stereotypical and non-discriminatory

- Image words: the search requests should already be clear above the image level

- child-friendly illustration style

3.4. History and content

- thematically depict a wide range of living environments that children get to know here, e.g. road traffic, playground, nature, shopping/food, city life

- ideally continuous narration: characters can be accompanied through the hidden object story and can be found on every page

- Familiar children's book characters can be part of the books.

3.5. Optionally

- History can be extended online in other languages (e.g. with an integrated QR code).

For example, by means of listening elements, translation of the reading text, etc.

- Concepts as well as titles that have already been or are yet to be published can be submitted that appear or have been released in stores at the same time, provided that they are adapted to the specified requirements and meet the technical and content requirements.

- No concepts/titles may be submitted that have already been or will be used in this or any other program area of the Reading Foundation.

BINDING EFFECT of award

The books to be delivered later must basically be designed in the same way as they were awarded by the client in the tender process on the basis of the concepts and illustrations submitted. Changes to the content of the content are only permitted after the contract has been awarded upon request and in coordination with Die AG.

After the contract has been awarded, the cardboard picture books (=hidden object books) must be developed in accordance with the service description and submitted as samples (prototype) to the AG for approval. Correction phases must then be scheduled for possible rework and coordination with the client, if necessary. The books may only be produced after approval by the AG.

delivery

The contractor is obliged to deliver the approved number of 20,000 books for two to six year old children free of charge and on time between September 5 and 16, 2022 at the latest.

Delivery is made uniformly to a location in Germany to be named, who is notified to the bidder in good time, i.e. at least four weeks before delivery.

The scrap for production must be calculated in such a way that underdelivery is 100% excluded. Overprints are permitted up to a maximum of 1.5%.

PROJECT CONTACT PERSON

The contractor designates a responsible project contact person.

Comic picture book for six to nine year old children

The work advertised includes the conception, production and ready-made delivery of a hardcover volume with a comic book style picture story for six to nine-year-old children in a circulation of 20,000 copies.

The contractor has to provide the following services:

1. Manufacturer's execution

- width 15 to max. 18 cm/

Height: 22 to max. 24 cm

- Pages 48-56 pages plus U1-U4

- Special edition: Start-up branding on U1 and U4 as well as other text modules

- Print: 4/4-color

- Bookbinding processing: hardcover

- Maximum weight per book: 300 grams

2. Material requirements/manufacturer quality:

- colourfast; also according to sweat and saliva resistance tests

- Product and material safe: all materials are free from azo dyes and PVC, non-toxic, stable, bite-resistant (proof of all requirements on request)

- Cardboard should contain recycled paper, but still have the appearance of white cardboard

- FSC certified paper

3. Content presets

- Difficulty increases per chapter (from no text to more text)

- History is already visible to non-readers via the image level

3.2. Text design and language

- Text content should increase from chapter to chapter (first level of difficulty ideally textless, but the highest level of difficulty should not go beyond simple sentences)

- The focus is not on text, but on the picture story

- Gender-appropriate and non-discriminatory language

3.3. illustrations

- Depict diversity in every respect (e.g. ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, family structure, etc.) and depictions that are stereotypical and non-discriminatory

- child-friendly illustration style

3.4. History and content

- individual chapters can depict a coherent story or different episodes

- The world of topics can be designed in many ways, but should have an everyday connection. Possible topics would be friendship, togetherness, adventure, everyday school life

- Style can be fairytaly/fantastic/magical, funny/fun, full of excitement and fun.

- Familiar children's book characters can be part of the books.

Optional:

- Interactive elements for puzzling or pages to complement/design yourself would be desirable

- ideally highlight key words (typographically or with additional picture words) to promote vocabulary building

- Concepts as well as titles that have already been or are yet to be published can be submitted that appear or have been released in stores at the same time, provided that they are adapted to the specified requirements and meet the technical and content requirements.

- No concepts/titles may be submitted that have already been or will be used in this or any other program area of the Reading Foundation.
