Based on an operational analysis, operational design domains for railway operations are worked out and supplemented with scenarios, boundary conditions and exceptional cases in order to determine the design space for tests on automated driving functions. For this purpose, a tool is also determined to automatically determine the test cases.

The aim is to provide a tool and a system to describe the space of test cases for automatic driving functions in rail transport (EBO). All operational cases, boundary conditions and sources of error should be taken into account. The completeness, representativeness and relevance of the test cases should be demonstrated and the tool validated.

Automated rail driving in the EBO sector is the subject of intensive R&D activity. Nevertheless, no highly automated operation has yet been approved in Germany. In the case of complex systems, such as a perception system with sensors, proof of safety can only be provided by means of tests. In the automotive sector, scenario-based testing has developed here. This is to be transferred to the railway sector. The prerequisites for this are to be created in this project.

Operational Design Domains (ODDs) for railway operations are determined in their description dimensions and their characteristics, as well as the scenarios and boundary conditions that occur. For this purpose, a system for the generation of test cases is developed and their completeness is verified. In addition, a software tool is created that implements the system and automatically determines test cases.
