Through comparative field research and/or experiments, insight is gained into (a)biotic conditions that make peat bog waters less sensitive to the invasion of crayfish or suppress the maximum numbers of lobsters.
Where possible, the acquired knowledge is translated into measures that water and site managers can take to manage lobsters and to take design measures that mitigate the impact of the lobsters. In the first instance, these will be experimental measures that must be tested on a small scale before the measures can be implemented on a large scale.
As the measures are further substantiated in practice, they also become relevant for policy, such as in management plans, recovery strategies, water framework directive and implementation of the European Union List of Exotics.
