Description:

Hydrogen should be stored in gaseous state in pressure vessels.

The storage facility will be integrated into an existing hydrogen infrastructure. From this, a desired maximum operating pressure of the accumulator of 300 bar is derived.

It will be a geometric storage volume of 20 m 3 sought.

The geometric storage volume should be divided into at least two units.

The permissible operating temperature of the memory is a range of -25 O C to 80 O C aimed.

1000 permissible load changes with a pressure difference of 300 bar or 10,000 permissible load changes with a pressure difference of 220 bar are aimed at for the storage tank.

The storage to be procured must be suitable for outdoor installation.

The planned site is located in a category III earthquake zone. Proof of type approval for operation in earthquake zone III should be provided by the manufacturer.

CE certification is required

As part of the expansion of its existing hydrogen infrastructure, the Institute of Power Plant Technology, Steam and Gas Turbines (IKDG) of RWTH Aachen University needs a hydrogen storage with the following technical specifications.

Hydrogen should be stored in gaseous state in pressure vessels.

In the design of the memory minimization of the geometric storage volume by increasing the maximum operating pressure is desirable. Since the storage facility is to be integrated into the existing hydrogen infrastructure of the IKDG, the maximum operating pressure of the storage tank is limited by the maximum operating pressure of the existing pipeline system. From the interaction of these two aspects, a desired maximum operating pressure of the accumulator of 300 bar is derived.

The store to be procured will have a geometric volume of 20 m 3 sought. In combination with the specified maximum operating pressure, this geometric volume results in a storable amount of hydrogen which is sufficient for carrying out experimental work on the IKDG.

To increase the flexibility in performing experimental work, the geometric storage volume should be divided into at least two units.

The permissible operating temperature of the memory is a range of -25 O C to 80 O C aimed. The maximum operating temperature of 80 O C is intended to reduce the cooling effort that results from the compulsory compression of the hydrogen from the operating pressure level of an electrolyzer (in the case of local hydrogen production) to the operating pressure level of the memory.

In order to guarantee the long-term use of the memory, a corresponding number of permissible load change cycles is mandatory. For the hydrogen storage to be procured 1000 permissible load changes are aimed for at a pressure difference of 300 bar or 10,000 permissible load changes at a pressure difference of 220 bar.

Due to the configuration of the existing hydrogen infrastructure at the IKDG it is essential that the storage to be procured is suitable for outdoor installation.

The institute area of the IKDG on the campus Melaten of the RWTH Aachen University is located in a category III earthquake zone. Before commissioning of the store to be procured, evidence must therefore be furnished that operation under these boundary conditions is permissible. Proof of type approval for the operation of the storage facility in a seismic zone III should be provided by the manufacturer, as this reduces the downstream effort for the verification by external service providers.

The commissioning of the storage facility at RWTH Aachen University requires CE certification.
