Description:
LONTZEN - CONSTRUCTION WORK FOR A MATERNELLE AND PRIMAIRE SCHOOL, THE CONVERSION OF A BUILDING OF THE EXISTING MATERNELLE SCHOOL AND THE DESIGN OF A PARKING LOT, A STREET AND THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE NEW SCHOOL IN HERBESTHAL.

The project falls under the construction of a new primary school and a new kindergarten as well as the conversion of the existing kindergarten in rue de l'Eglise in Herbesthal, Lontzen on behalf of the municipality of Lontzen.

The philosophy of the project was built on the site, with the main objective being to conceive the school as a place anchored in nature, facing the landscape, making the most of the current views and landscape perspectives.

The project proposes a strong concept in which the new school uses the relief of the sloping terrain to partially slide under it and merge with the landscape.

The building to be renovated is a small, two-storey structure attached to the main building of the existing school. It will be connected to the new building by a bridge. The conversion has no impact on the outer shell of the building, on which no work will be carried out. It consists of a reorganization of the interiors with the furnishing of the administrative area and four additional classrooms. The idea is to refresh the premises and optimize their organization.

The new building uses the relief of the terrain to partially slide under the terrain and merge with the landscape. The schoolyards extend over two levels. The primary school yard in the upper part (RO level) and the kindergarten courtyard in the lower part of the site (R-1 level).

The construction of the new school can be summed up by the articulation of three volumes.

The first (on three levels) is very long and houses the primary school rooms in RO and R1. In R-1 are the basement and technical rooms, as well as part of the kindergartens.

The second volume acts as a passageway, as a connection between the volumes "primary school" and "kindergarten" and serves as an indoor playground for the smaller ones. This space is extensively glazed towards the north, so it communicates with the courtyard area, which becomes an extension of the interior space and allows users to enjoy a view of the currently very green landscape.

The third volume comes to rest on the base of the R-1. It has a more "playful" identity, a more compact shape with a pent roof that reveals from the outside the dining hall and the main entrance of the new school.

The new building is therefore organized on three levels:

• Level -1 corresponds to the main entrance of the new volume (covered area), which can be accessed via the new facilities such as the car park and the forecourt via rue des Prairies. From an organizational point of view, all the rooms dedicated to kindergartens are located here.

• Level R0 extends over two poles, one dedicated exclusively to primary school students and connected to the administrative area by an external bridge, while the other (superimposed by the kindergartens) houses the dining room and the psychomotor room.

• Level R1 is intended exclusively for primary school classes.

• The new parking lot will be landscaped, the trees will be planted according to the model of an orchard. The parking lot is extended by a minute parking zone, which allows parents to safely drop off their little ones.
