The Directorate-General for Energy, Unit D.3, Radiation protection (DG Energy D.3), is responsible for the radiological emergency preparedness arrangements within the European Commission. An important part of these arrangements is the ability to quickly assess possible radiological emergency or emergency threat situations and advise other European Commission services on their seriousness, possible future development and any possible European Union action required.

Unit DG Energy D.3 is strengthening its expertise in the field of radiological emergency management in the Commission. DG Energy D.3 has published this call for tenders in order to make additional support resources available to the DG Energy D.3 emergency team during emergency situations. The unit intends to establish a strong support link between the DG Energy D.3 emergency team and a leading radiological emergency preparedness organisation, 'the contractor'. The support duration is 36 months starting on 1.4.2016. The support is intended to be activated at any time and maintained on a 24-hour basis during an emergency.
