At the beginning of 2019, the city of Lokeren bought the former post office building. The appearance of this building is very large: it is one of the four landmarks that are present on every corner of the Markt: city hall, St. Lawrence church, city museum and post office building.

The building is also protected as a monument.

The city of Lokeren already carried out works on the roof and gutters in 2020 to eliminate the existing water infiltration. These were the most urgent and necessary works.

The city will house the Tourist Office, which is currently housed far too small, on the ground floor.

The archive, currently housed in less optimal conditions in the Torenstraat, will also move to this building.

In addition to these services, other destinations will be added: multipurpose meeting rooms, an exhibition space and, in function of the future redesign of the current administrative center, the city council hall and a space for other ceremonial events will also be accommodated here.

This assignment concerns the restoration and repurposing into an administrative centre of a post building protected as a monument and the construction of a linked contemporary building volume that houses an archive, exhibition space and municipal council hall.
