London Gateway are a Harbour Authority by virtue of the London Gateway Port Harbour Empowerment Order 2008. This HEO allows, in Section 13 – Power to Dredge, the Harbour Authority to dredge, deepen, scour, cleanse, alter, improve the river bed and foreshore to the extent described in Schedule 3 of the HEO, or as may be required for the purpose of maintaining the works described in Schedule 3.
As part of its port needs, LG is planning to carry out a maintenance dredging in the Yantlet channel (Thames Estuary). This campaign, to be performed before the end of this year 2022, will focus in 2 areas (SeaReach 3 and SeaReach 4&5) with a total Volume of circa 1.3Mm3.
LG has a Port of London Authority dredge licence in place (valid until 17 March 2025) covering one campaign/year up to 1.5Mm3/year in Ebb tide. Sediment samples have also been collected in June 2022 and results can be provided to tenderers.
With a final target level of -14.50mCD, tenderers can consider using Trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) as well as water injection dredger (WID) to assist in the effectiveness of the dredging.
