On Friday 18 June last year, Leersum was hit by a devastating fall wind. For the residents a very drastic moment that literally and figuratively has caused wounds in both the built-up area and the surrounding forests. Since that moment, a lot of energy has been released to bring back together as a community what had been lost.
The municipality is working on a recovery plan. The population is involved in this elaboration. The intended result can count on a large support base. The challenge that will soon lie ahead for the candidate/tenderer is to largely implement the plan as much as possible in the 2022/23 planting season.
The main activities of the project are as follows:
- Preparation of the planting of approx. 650 trees with usually a size of 16-18 cm. trunk circumference (sometimes larger 20–25 cm).
- The planting of two forest plots.
- Preparation of the planting of smaller shrubs and sowing of herbal mixtures;
- Growth site improvement of the trees to be planted
- Lowering approx. 7000 m2 of verges by approx. 20 cm.
- Informing residents and local organizations (implementation communication)
- Coordinate with cable and pipeline operators
More and detail the following about the planting of trees (most of the work):
1. Preparatory work: making permit reports, road deposits and security, milling and clean-up work;
2. Purchase of approx. 20 species of native and native trees as well as shrubs;
3. Approx. 650 Planting trees at designated locations throughout the project area: cutting down some trees, excavating soil, draining and soil improvement, planting trees, anchoring, finishing verges and if necessary restoring pavement
4. Special places: Forest planting in two places in the area. Removing paving stones and installing greenery and trees on the church square, attention to special places where citizens have come up with ideas (nature playgrounds).
5. Performing aftercare for the next three years and regrowth guarantee.
