U Platz der Luftbrücke - Tunnel rehabilitation OP + TP

U Platz der Luftbrücke - Tunnel rehabilitation OP + TP

The Platz der Luftbrücke U-Bahn station is part of today's U6 line, which runs in a north-south direction from the Tegel district via the Mitte and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg districts to the Mariendorf district.

The station was opened on 14 February 1926 under the name Kreuzberg as the first station of the Tempelhof branch of the then line C. From 1937 to 1975, the station was run under the name Airport, as the main entrance to the airport building shifted due to the new construction of Tempelhof Airport.

The columnless platform hall was built at a depth of 1.5 times with two vestibules on the intermediate floors. From vestibule I in the north, a staircase with a historic staircase including a reconstructed illuminated banner leads east to Mehringdamm (I/2). In the original plan, a second entrance was planned on the western side, but this was not carried out. Before the reconstruction in 1956, a staircase led west from the vestibule II in the south to Dudenstraße (II/1) and a second south to today's Platz der Luftbrücke (II/2).

During the above-mentioned conversion project, the two entrances to vestibule II were relocated and given a roof, which is closed off on three sides by a steel and glass construction. An additional access to the east in the direction of Columbiadamm (II/4) was built in the same design.

In the course of the barrier-free expansion and basic repair currently taking place, the station will receive an elevator system including a new entrance (II/3).

The Platz der Luftbrücke station is a listed building.

The reason for this repair measure is the continuation of the concrete repair and steel renovation of the ceiling above vestibule II, which is currently taking place.

The tunnel rehabilitation includes a steel renovation and extensive concrete repair of the ceilings of the vestibule I, the entrances (I/2, II/1, II/2, II/4) and the adjacent ancillary rooms as well as the walls in contact with the ground. The aim is to maintain stability, serviceability and operational safety by eliminating damage and its structural causes and to guarantee this for at least another 30 years after completion of all work.

Against the background of the high demands on timely, qualitative and economical planning implementation, the BVG commissions a planning office with this tender on the basis of HAOI 2021.
