Description:
Evaluation of the use of child poverty resources (a)

Preventing and combating poverty and debt problems has been high on the agenda in the past and current cabinet period. In addition to measures aimed at making (more) hours of work more rewarding, measures aimed at reintegration into work and the broad debt approach, special attention is also paid to the (social) position of children. Children who grow up in a family with little money are often on the sidelines. There is then no money to play sports, throw a birthday party or buy a bicycle to go to school with. Not being able to participate, and thereby experiencing shame and stigma, affects a child's personal and psychological development, which increases the risk of disadvantage and inequality.

Not being able to participate, and thereby experiencing shame and stigma, affects a child's personal and psychological development, which increases the risk of disadvantage and inequality. The aim of the previous and current cabinet is to prevent children from becoming victims of their parents' financial problems, by ensuring that children can participate and thereby develop themselves properly. This is achieved by help in kind (think of sports subscription, bicycle, etc.) and an integrated approach to child poverty within the municipality (poverty reduction through cooperation with work and income, youth, education, health, and sport and culture). After all, a low-income family often has several problems at the same time, such as education, health and safety, unemployment, debts, psychological problems, social isolation of parents and low literacy.
