How can disinformation and misinformation on EMF topics be most effectively identified and invalidated in social media?
The current expansion of power and mobile networks is causing fears in parts of the population about the health effects of electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields (EMF). Such concerns can be triggered or exacerbated by disinformation and misinformation that spreads on social media through liking, sharing and commenting. The BfS risk communication poses major challenges in this circumstance. The research project will therefore identify actors and networks that disseminate disinformation or misinformation on social media and analyze related content, strategies and discourses. Based on the results of this identification and analysis, the researcher develops a holistic communication concept for the BfS, with which disinformation and misinformation can be effectively identified and invalidated. The use of software-based solutions such as social bots will also be explored against this background. The development of the communication concept also includes the content planning, organization and execution of a one-day workshop.
