NHS Lothian is building a new centralised endoscopy decontamination unit (CEDU) at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.
The supply and installation of Endoscope Washer Disinfectors, water treatment systems and ancillary equipment is required.Training of staff on equipment supplied is also required.

This new CEDU will be processing 25 000 flexible endoscopes procedures per year. This will include gastroscopes, colonoscopes, bronchoscopes, cystoscopes, hysteroscopes, laryngoscopes, rhino-laryngoscopes, TOE probes, EBUS, ERCP, mini ultrasound probes and High Resolution Manometry Catheters.
This CEDU will decontaminate around 2 500 TOE probes per year. These procedures are carried out on 4 sites across NHS Lothian:
Royal Infirmary
Western General Hospital
St John's Hospital, Livingston
Royal Hospital for Sick Children
At least one EWD must be capable of decontaminating TOE probes to the capacity stated under normal service operations.
