The Deutsches Museum was founded in 1903 and, with a gross floor area of 73,000 m² and a total exhibition area of 41,111 m², is one of the largest scientific and technical museums in the world. With around 1.5 million national and international visitors annually, it is the most visited museum in Germany. As a scientific institution of national importance, it houses a collection of over 107,000 objects in over 50 subject areas.

In addition to the collection of instruments, the field of astronomy included a

Exhibition, a modern hybrid planetarium and an observatory with three large

Telescopes installed in three different places of the museum.

The closure of this area in summer 2022 will also affect the large planetarium on the 6th floor. This Ptolemaic projection planetarium was the first in the world. The Model1 projector, built by zeiss at the suggestion of the museum's founder Oskar von Miller, was a world sensation in 1923, which led to a boom in the construction of planetariums worldwide.

So next year 2023 will be the 100th anniversary of our planetarium. Since our dome is not operational due to the closure, the Deutsches Museum is planning to set up an interim planetarium for a period of one year as part of the special exhibition '100 Years of projection planetarium' in cooperation with zeiss.

A geodetic dome with a diameter of 10m will be set up, in which primarily astronomical content will be projected for the visitors using state-of-the-art planetarium technology.

The object of this tender is the delivery of a geodetic dome, as well as its installation in the Deutsches Museum Munich with commissioning at the beginning of March 2023.
