Cities and municipalities wear in accordance with art. 9 of the Animal Welfare Act of 14.8.1986 the responsibility for roaming, lost or abandoned animals on their territory.
The new decree came into effect on 1.4.2018, which extended the obligations of municipalities with regard to stray cats. The municipal authorities are now also responsible for, among other things, feeding freed stray cats in a controlled manner and providing shelter.
To support the cities and municipalities, the Animal Welfare Service wants shelter shelters to be built to provide the stray cats that have been released with a decent shelter.
