Preventing Maternal Deaths The programme will build on previous programme, Preventing Maternal Deaths from Unwanted Pregnancy (PMDUP) to continue reducing women's recourse to unsafe abortion and keep increasing the uptake of Family Planning (FP), focusing specifically on marginalised and young women. This programme will contribute significantly to changing the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) landscape across the PMD countries. Aligning with DFID's terms of reference, PMD's approach is designed to transition to an increasingly sustainable delivery of FP and SA services in sub-Saharan Africa and a phase out of the programming in Asia. The PMD countries are: Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe (with Afghanistan closing March 2017).
