Bangor University is seeking to appoint a well-qualified waste collection and management service provider, to service its estate in and around the city of Bangor (Gwynedd); as well as a smaller requirement in Menai Bridge, and Mona (Anglesey).
The requirements cover the following — residual/general waste, to go to landfill; recyclable municipal wastes (paper; cardboard; plastics; cans; and glass); food waste; and skip/container waste.
The service covers the academic estate and research units, central support services buildings and functions, and student Halls of Residence, as well as the requirements of the Bangor University Students' Union.
It is anticipated that the contract will commence in April 2014, and last for 2 years in the first instance, with two additional contract extensions, each of 12 months' duration.
Bangor University is committed to the development of sustainable waste management practices as part of its objective to address carbon emissions and is therefore seeking to minimise the amount of material sent to landfill. The successful service provider will be required to provide detailed electronic reports on all waste collections/weights.
Our Environmental Management System incorporates a publicly available Carbon Management Strategy which includes a target to recycle 60 % of our municipal waste by 2020. Our current (2011/2012) recycling rate is 40 %.
