FE 04.0325 / 2018 / MRB:
Pilot application of a tempered road on the duraBASt:
In addition to the traffic load, the performance of the road pavement is largely dependent on the climatic effects. On the one hand, the winter months affect the road safety due to ice and snow, on the other hand, the lifespan of a road pavement is reduced by exposure to cold and salt in winter and by exposure to heat in summer. Route sections with special constructional or small-climatic characteristics represent a challenge for winter service. The temperature of the road pavement, ie the limitation of the extreme values of the temperatures of the asphalt package, is one way of counteracting these climatic (extreme) effects and contributing to traffic safety and protecting the structures and to supply the environment by reducing the salt input.
The aim of the research project is to develop a procedure for the computational dimensioning of tempered road pavements via the implementation in a large-scale test on the duraBASt. For this purpose, the mode of operation and the efficiency of the temperature control must be examined using appropriate sensor data within the control of the energy system and the design variants. In particular, the focus is on the installation technology implementation of flow through interlayers in comparison to pipe registers already used for temperature control. The temperature control of the demonstrator should take place via an energy system to be installed on site, taking into account aspects of sustainable energy supply.
