Description:
Family support services are needed to provide short breaks for disabled children and young people, allowing parents to take a break while offering positive experiences for the children.
PEP/CYP/Short Breaks for Disabled Children Recommission 2025. Short breaks are preventative, family support services that provide a disabled child or young person with a break. They can be at any time ranging from an hour to a day, evening, overnight weekend or holiday, depending on the needs of the family involved. The short break may take place in a community activity setting, a child/young person’s home or other residential setting. It allows parents and carers to have a break from their caring responsibilities and gives children and young people the opportunity for a positive experience. Specialist (higher-level and residential services) are accessed following a social worker process referral, this currently includes direct payments. Targeted short breaks are open access. The initial term would be 3 years with the option of adding an additional 1 year + 1 year Lot 1 – Holidays, evenings & weekends Lot 1 – Holidays, evenings & weekends Short breaks are preventative, family support services that provide a disabled child or young person with a break.
