Local site supervision and site management

The Federal Republic of Germany, represented by Hesse Mobile Road and Traffic Management, is currently building a new walking and cycling path along the B 42 federal road between Lorch and Assmannshausen on the Rhine side.

There is mostly no footpath in the section between Lorch and Assmannshausen. Due to very tight conditions, the construction of bored pile walls creates space for a walking and cycling path facing the Rhine with a clear usable width of 2.5 m. In addition to the bored pile walls on the Rhine embankment wall, a new head beam or new angular retaining walls must be produced along with the optimisation of the road axis of the B 42. The walking and cycling path on the Rhine side is separated from the traffic area of the B 42 by means of a passive protective device. A railing is attached to the side of the Rhine as fall protection, which is replaced by a safety rail in areas of passageways in the guard.

In its current state, there is only one cycle path along the main road, which was created as part of the Lorch and Assmannshausen bypasses. As cyclists have to switch to the federal highway in many sections of the route, there is currently a high risk potential on this cycle path link, which is important for cyclists as well as for local leisure needs.

The measure to be implemented covers the remaining section 2 of the walking and cycling path between Lorch and Assmannshausen over a length of 2,750 m, in section 2b. Section 2a starting in Lorch has already been implemented. It is not part of this measure. Section 2c is currently being implemented in parallel.
