The Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (HVB) and the HVG Halberstädter Verkehrs-GmbH operate local public transport in the Harz district. HVG operates public transport in Halberstadt with 7 trams and 9 buses. In the rest of the district, HVB and its subcontractors provide public transport services with 174 buses.

In the present award procedure, the vehicle equipment is renewed with on-board computers/vehicle printers in the design of a compact device. In addition to the classic distribution of paper tickets, e-ticketing according to VDV-KA as well as so-called ID-based ticketing including corresponding hardware and software are awarded. HVG and HVB are also planning to procure their own ITCS and other application software.
