The University of Liverpool (with partial funding from European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)) is constructing a new building, Liverpool BioInnovation Hub (LBIH), which will house both University academics and staff, and also small medium enterprises (SMEs).

A consolidated biobank, both physically and virtually, will be expected to provide biological samples, clinical data and laboratory services to internal researchers, external researchers and the SMEs found in LBIH. In order to facilitate the release of samples, data and services it was necessary to propose the creation of a new I.T. structure that will bring the existing databases together. The new structure will allow external parties to interrogate the biobank holdings via a web catalogue.
