Background
The food chain and the export unit promote profitable, sustainable and increasing food production within the framework of the food strategy. Part of the work on the food strategy is to develop export approvals for Swedish food and agricultural products. The unit works with bilateral negotiations where we answer questionnaires, produce agreements and certificates for exports to countries outside the EU and we also benefit greatly from EU membership in our daily work. We participate in Council working groups on exports and work continuously with issues related to the World Trade Organization's (WTO) SPS agreement. We work both with our own matters for agricultural products and together with the National Food Agency on export matters relating to food.
Part of the process of new market access is the reception of inspection visits from foreign delegations. This may involve study visits for the delegation to familiarise itself with the Swedish food system or specific facility inspections prior to the opening of exports from these facilities.
The export promotion work includes collaboration with, among others, industry associations, companies, other authorities, the Government Offices (LI Ministry and Ministry for Foreign Affairs), embassies and relevant actors within the EU institutions. The work involves many different interfaces, both nationally and internationally.
The export promotion team at the Food Chain and Export Unit has one coordinator and five export officers.
