Today, the ICN form one of the backbone of the IC fleet of long-distance SBB transport. Due to the long-term use in IC traffic, a modernization and thus alignment to changing customer needs and a contemporary appearance is required. Under the project name “ICN Modernization Project”, the ICN fleet is being comprehensively modernized as part of an overall project.

The lighting for the ICN fleet is to be converted to energy-saving LED technology and at the same time designed in accordance with the currently applicable standard EN 13272: 2020 (electrical lighting in rail vehicles).
