The magazine building is located on the outskirts in the south of the site. It was built in 1952 as a sawmill for the neighbouring Hansa colliery. The 6 large gates on the front and back, through which the tree trunks were passed through the building, also date from this period. The chip bunker attached to the north is also a relic from this period. The building has a partial basement.
The building is to be given a new use in the course of the IGA 2027. Due to the newly designed entrance area that was moved to the south as part of the International Garden Exhibition, the building - previously located on the outskirts - now plays a very central role: it is to become the entrance building to the IGA and remain that of the Hansa coking plant after 2027.
The work is divided into two thematic areas: the renovation of the roof and specialist building envelope in accordance with the requirements of the monument and the use-specific fitting.
This must be given special consideration in the context of the general planning services to be commissioned.
The following functions must be taken into account in the hall:
- Set info point (e.g. as a container) with cash register function
- Storage space for information material
- Lockers for visitors
-Cloakroom
- Shop / sales area
- Meeting point for guided tours / visitor groups
- Media area in which films can be shown if necessary (media technology is not included).

Nevertheless, the basic principle is clear, i.e. own, alternative approaches on how to deal with the building in principle are not part of the task.
As part of the tender, a general planner is being sought who covers the disciplines of architecture, structural engineering and planning of technical building equipment as well as fire protection and building physics in order to further develop the outlined planning task and to realize it structurally (across all service phases). As part of the bidding process, it is important to outline, among other things, the conceptual approach and a restructuring strategy.
Since the application for funding for the construction must be submitted in 2023, a cost calculation must be prepared by the end of August 2023.
