As part of the expansion work of the Lötschberg Base Tunnel, the service tunnel (DST) Kandertal and the access tunnel (ZST) Mitholz must be renovated so that they can continue to ensure safe use as maintenance and rescue routes during the upcoming main work on the railway tunnel.
Depending on the tunnel, the following work is carried out:
- remove existing road elements and concrete out the floor of the service tunnel
- drain accumulated mountain water into pipelines, which are laid on the bottom segments of the tunnel and embedded in concrete
- vault renovation in places
- Renewal of the shotcrete cladding in sections and, depending on the type of renovation, with sealing membranes or foils
