The Thuringian long-distance water supply company intends to award the planning services for the Pisselsmühle pre-dam (sub-object 2) as part of the overall Weida Dam – General Repair of Shut-off Structures and Ancillary Facilities.

The Weida Dam has been in continuous operation since 1955. During this more than 65 years of operation, only minor renovations and upgrades have been carried out so far that are independent of congestion. All structures, operating facilities and equipment show highly progressive signs of wear and tear due to ageing and use.

In the last inspection report from 2015, the bridge structure received a condition score of 3.1, which certifies that the structure is not in sufficient condition. Traffic is currently limited to one lane due to narrowing.

The 2014 study by Pöyry Deutschland GmbH ("Study Pöyry") examined the technical and economic possibilities as well as the effects of the

• Repair, including continued operation, or dismantling of the

Pre-lock as well as

• a dismantling or repair or a new construction of the road bridge including abutments (preservation of the path connection)

at the Pisselsmühle pre-dam as a basis for decision-making on how to proceed.

On the basis of the "Pöyry study" and in continuation of the planning activities for the repair of the main dam and saddle wall and further knowledge gained as a result, a justifiable decision for the preservation or dismantling of the Pisselsmühle pre-dam cannot be derived. There are 3 pre-selected variants from the "Study of Pöyry" and an additional sub-variant to be examined in more detail through further information and investigations.
