Description:

UK Shared Business Services Ltd on behalf of the Contracting Authority is putting in place a Contract for the purchase of a Medium Frequency Radar.

This opportunity is for the supply of a medium frequency radar to study the dynamics and energetics of the middle and upper atmosphere above the Antarctic Peninsula.

The new radar system will both continue the work of the existing MF radar, which has operated nearly continuously since 1997, and introduce a new capability for studying the lower ionosphere. The current system measures winds, tides and planetary waves between approximately 60 and 100 km altitude, using the full correlation analysis technique. It is part of a scientific research programme focused on space weather and its interaction with the neutral atmosphere.

The complete system must be delivered to the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge by 28.2.2018.

See Section I.3 for access to procurement documentation.

This opportunity is for the supply of a medium frequency radar to study the dynamics and energetics of the middle and upper atmosphere above the Antarctic Peninsula.

The radar will be operated at Rothera Research Station (67.567°S 68.133°W). The new radar will improve the altitude coverage and temporal cadence of the existing system, whilst fitting within the current antenna footprint.

A complete, fully tested, validated and calibrated system, fully automated and remotely controllable, must be delivered to BAS no later than 28.2.2018.
